Norah Jones - “Jesus, Etc.”
Dallas-bred Norah Jones released this cover as part of a live bonus EP from her last record, The Fall. Taking a more electric angle on Wilco’s classic song from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, she gives the song new life with her cool, smoky vocal and reverbed guitar. Jones just released …Featuring Norah Jones, which finds her duetting with partners like Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, and Belle and Sebastian, but this track might find her in better form than any of those collaborations.
Belle and Sebastian - “I Didn’t See It Coming”
Scottish indie-pop band Belle and Sebastian have graced fans with their cozy, intimate songs ever since its debut of Tigermilk in 1996. Frontman Stuart Murdoch’s gentle voice combined with bandmate Sarah Martin’s sweet vocals create a sound reminiscent of pop music of the ’60s and ’70s. The band’s latest studio album, Write About Love, has a more polished sound, with cameos from actress Carey Mulligan and singer-songwriter Norah Jones, but remains true to the comforting melodies and clever lyrics fans have come to love. The album’s first track “I Didn’t See It Coming,” combines the lovely pairing of Murdoch and Martin’s vocals with an infectious, springy sound that dares any listener not to smile.
