OK, seeing how it’s Friday and the fabled first day of the State Fair of Texas, I thought this lil’ track from the Old 97’s was in order - recorded live in 2010 for WNYC’s Soundcheck. Happy weekend, y’all!

Murry Hammond - “Lost at Sea”
The Texas native (who named his son Tex), better known for being the bass player, background vocalist, and dark horse songwriting champ of the Old 97’s lives in California now, where he leads an old-time gospel service at a local church. This solo record, I Don’t Know Where I’m Going But I’m On My Way, shows off the pedigree he has gained from being immersed in that music.

Old 97’s - “Won’t Be Home”
This track from 2004’s album Drag it Up features the signature energetic style of Old 97’s. Originally from Dallas, Old 97’s have made a 15 year career of it, most recently releasing their seventh studio album, Blame it on Gravity. Lead singer Rhett Miller, is joining KXT for June’s sold-out Barefoot at the Belmont concert series and is a regular on KXT playlists.
