This sounds promising. A legendary director, live animals, and a Killer(s) show. No pun intended.

OK, I admit it. I cave into my musical crushes on a daily basis. My latest one hails from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and his album Signs & Signifiers makes me wanna back comb my hair, smack my gum and shake what the good Lord gave me. Close your eyes and for a moment you might think you’re hearing one of the soundtracks to an early John Waters film (Mondo Trasho totally comes to mind) or the lost son of Link Wray, but no, he’s from the here and now and he’ll capture your heart for all eternity. Ladies and gentlemen, J.D. McPherson…

Not that we needed any further proof, but a little reminder every once in a while doesn’t hurt. Check out his cover of Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe,” and go merrily into your holiday weekend. Happy Friday, y’all.

Check out Bahamas on World Cafe
Bahamas opened for Noah & The Whale at Club Dada last summer and my life hasn’t been the same since. If not, just click the link above and enjoy. And if you’re in Austin for the SXSW festivities next week, here’s where you can catch some of this exquisiteness for yourself:

Francophiles and sci-fi freaks, this one’s for you. French electro-duo Air was commissioned to come up with the soundtrack for the newly-restored and colorized ‘Le Voyage dans la Lune’, the 1902 classic from ‘cinemagician’ Georges Méliès. Check out NPR’s interview with Nicolas and Jean- Benoit and the history of the restoration project via the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

What’s sweeter than a dozen Gold of Kinbalu orchids or a special delivery from Dude, Sweet Chocolate or Coco Andre? Dallas duo Smile Smile’s “Tempo Bledsoe” getting some national attention in the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Valentine’s Day commercial, that’s what. Go, Ryan and Jencey!

Before the grinchiness and/or cynicism kicks in, try this one on for size. It’s Matt Pond PA’s muy brilliante cover of Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road,” from the 1983 Chevy Chase blockbuster, National Lampoon’s Vacation. I dare you to be in a bad mood after hearing this. Go on. I double-dawg dare you.
