My Morning Jacket - “Off The Record”

Though initially pegged as a Southern Rock band, Kentucky’s My Morning Jacket expanded their sound on 2005’s Z. This track, the centerpiece of the record, playfully teases the Hawaii Five-O theme before launching into a rocking reggae beat, with Jim James’ high tenor vocals anchoring the song firmly in the band’s sound. Before this record, the band added Carl Broemel on guitar and Bo Koster on keyboards, which James said pushed the band in new sonic directions.

Gomez - “Airstream Driver”

This song, from Gomez’s sixth record A New Tide, shows the expanse of their musical talents, pulling in blues, catchy pop melodies, and quirky indie rock sounds. Despite finding success with their first two releases Bring It On and Liquid Skin, they have bounced around between labels before landing on Dave Matthews’ ATO Records, which is also home to Dawes, the Drive By Truckers, Danny Barnes, and My Morning Jacket. 

Laura Veirs - “Carol Kaye”

This song comes from Laura Veirs’ latest record July Flame, produced by longtime boyfriend Tucker Martine. We have had the title track in rotation, but this song, featuring harmonies by Jim James of My Morning Jacket, celebrates the longtime bassist for the Wrecking Crew, the studio wizards who played on hundreds of recordings by Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and more.
